Use: Foam Rollers have become extremely popular in the fitness world as of late for their ability to alleviate soreness, reintroduce blood-flow, and mobilize tissue that has become compromised due to excessive cardiovascular exercise and weight training.  To properly utilize a foam roller, you want to identify the muscles and/or body parts you want to roll over and then position that part of your body on the foam roller. Then, roll back and forth slowly while focusing on breathing deeply.

Review: There are a lot of foam roller options out there, and frankly a lot of good options. While we use the Foam Rollers from AmazonBasics, Amazon is littered with other great options. As long as the foam roller you purchase is high-density, you can’t go wrong. Some foam rollers are knobbed to specifically target tissues in certain ways. The benefits from these foam rollers are mostly anecdotal, but they certainly do target tissues in different ways. We recommend experimenting with the different foam rollers we have here at the gym and deciding which you enjoy the most.

Many of our clients, and even the trainers, regularly utilize foam rollers. One of our trainers, Nick, has a chronically tight thoracic spine. Incorporating the foam roller as well as other mobility exercises has increased his range of motion tremendously.

Price: The AmazonBasics foam rollers are between $9.89-$19.79 depending on which size you purchase (they range from 12 inches to 36 inches). We feel that this is one of the best compromises of quality and affordability that Amazon has to offer.
